Wheeler & Wilson (1)
1873
This is a 'Wheeler & Wilson' Model # 1, Box style
Rotary lock-stitch sewing machine, manufactured in Bridgeport, CT, 1873.
(Just as a time reference: ... Lincoln Dies & the Civil War ends in 1865. )
This Wheeler & Wilson sold on Ebay, November 2019.
This was my second Sidewinder type Sewing machine. W&W made multiple variations of this machine -
the Model #1 Box style, with Silver Plated Arms is the fanciest.
It's workings are encased within the box base, which is fairly rare. It's the only one like it that I've seen.
This one was in pretty good condition when I got it, so I tried to salvage as much of the original decorations as I could. This is probably 80% original decorations, with just the lacy edging on the bottom being replaced, & a few touchups to the paint & art on the main body. The decorations were all originally hand painted, & in the same pattern I used. These appear to be huge, but are surprisingly small, at only 6" tall (sewing plate is only 4" x 6").
