Wilson, Bowman & Co "The Lockman", 1870's
This is "The Lockman" Sewing Machine.
This was manufactured by Wilson, Bowman & Co, in Hamilton Ontario, Canada, 1869 - the Early 1870's.
(Just as a time reference, The Civil war ended, & Lincoln was shot in 1865)
This machine sold on Ebay in June of 2020.
Above, The slide plate cover was missing, so I had to make one from another machine of similar age. It was 1.5" longer, & about 150% wider, but I cut it down, & ground it til it fit. It fit well, & slid easily, without falling out. Yay!
The bobbin winder is shown in the gear picture, & the Boat Shuttle & Bobbin are shown in the 3 other shots. Bottom center shot is of the workings of the machine, from below. You can just see the boat shuttle in the race, just below the surface. (And in upper Left corner shot, beneath the slide plate. Point of the shuttle aims towards the back of the machine.)
