F W Muller # 12 w/ Lid

Toy - 1890's

This is another FW Muller #12, with it's original Lid (Very rare).

FW Muller was a German company, who began manufacturing toy sewing machines in 1888. Their earliest machines were Cast Iron, but soon they began to produce machines stamped out of sheet metal with tin plate.

This is one of their early Cast Iron machines, probably from the 1890's, though I could not find a specific date. These machines were intended to be toys, but were sturdy, fully functional machines, & nearly as big as the full size sewing machines of other manufacturers of the time. They are known for their Ornate Paw Feet, & other decorative details on their very sturdy bases.

FYI: Finished Machine is Black, with GOLD decals - same as the lid

This machine was completely refurbished, & salvaged from her formerly rusty condition. SOLD on Ebay in 2019.

Oddly, this machine came with a loose fitting knob atop the thread spool pin, which I couldn't figure out why.

Silly me, it just dawned on me, as I was making this webpage, that it may very well have been the missing knob from atop the lid, which I replaced with a knob I had around the house, already. I honestly don't know, but I liked the looks of the knob I used, better, anyway, so it's just as well. I have no idea what I'll do with the knob from this machine, but it looked out of place where it was, and did not fit, anyway, so I'll just set it aside for now, and eventually find a use for it. : )
