Casige - Art Deco
Brittish Zone - 1945-1949
This is a 'Casige' TOY Sewing machine from 1945-1949, manufactured in Germany, shortly after WWII.
The sewing plate is stamped "CASIGE ~ MADE IN GERMANY ~ BRITISH ZONE", which dates it to the British post-war occupation from 1945-1949.
(A bit of History: After its defeat in World War II, Germany was divided into 4 zones under the control of the United States, Britain, France, & the Soviet Union. British, French, & US occupation ended in 1949 ).
** Listed, but not yet SOLD on Ebay in 2019
This machine had some minor rust, paint bubbles, & a lot of scuffs, so I removed all that, then masked the decals, which were in pretty good shape.
(This was my first try at saving the decals. Usually, the rust is so bad, there's no salvaging the original decals - & believe me, I have tried).
I then painted it, sanded down the ridges where the tape came off, & clear coated the whole thing, to even out the finish.
(We both loved the Art Deco designs, & did not want to ruin that.)
The sewing plate has stamped: "Gesch.M 1470" near the base of the machine head. In the center of the sewing plate is the logo for Casige, which is an Eagle - holding a key. (Casige started out as a Lock-maker, so the key is their symbol.) Beneath the Eagle, it says:
